The Green Envelope – Phase III

This series of projects demonstrates the successful integration of historic preservation and “green” sustainable practice, largely funded by grants from the Community Preservation Act and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. We are currently working with American Steeple and Tower from Salem, MA to repair serious structural damage from water infiltration under the belfry, install eight reproduction windows in the cupola, and restore rotted wood trim to be followed with complete exterior painting of the tower. The primary goal of Phase III is to seal and enhance insulation of the entire building envelope to further reduce our energy consumption. The Meetinghouse already holds the rare distinction for an historic building of reaching “carbon neutral” status, thanks to a combination of energy conservation and carbon mitigation in partnership with Reforest the Tropics. Installation of 28 new storm windows for the 1806 portion of the building will complete the Green Envelope projects but, as of this writing, we still need to raise a minimum of $60,000 additional to complete Phase III.
