The John Baboian Ensemble with vocalist Sandi Bedrosian. Well known as an accomplished guitarist and composer in jazz and swing circles, John Baboian is equally at home in the classical, blues, rock, R&B, Latin, and world music traditions. He has performed all over the world and has shared the stage with a who’s who of music industry legends. His work has been featured on a number of popular television series and more than 20 recordings. As an educator for more than 40 years, Baboian has inspired and trained a generation of aspiring musicians. An audience favorite, Baboian and his ensemble, several of whom are fellow faculty members from the Berklee College of Music, have traditionally opened the Music on Meetinghouse Green series. Sandi Bedrosian is well known as a lead vocalist and director in a wide range of musical styles and has opened for some of today’s hottest stars. She has performed coast to coast and throughout Europe and her repertoire includes musical productions, theater, and opera.

Reshaping Gloucester's relationship with food. Backyard Growers began in 2010 as a program of the Cape Ann Farmers’ Market as part of their mission to connect residents with healthy food. With support from The Food Project, they provided backyard gardens to families in downtown neighbors. The program grew quickly to include new backyard gardens in community gardens, and school gardens, becoming its own organization in 2013.

Backyard Growers today is helping to reshape Gloucester's relationship with food. They provide resources and support to establish vegetable gardens at homes, housing communities, organizations, and schools. They are successfully creating life-long gardeners inspired to grow food.

Pathways is a leading provider of education and care programs on the North Shore of Massachusetts serving over 500 children and their families from 14 communities. Our year-round programming, including Head Start and Early Head Start, serves children birth to age 13 and their families. We have centers in Gloucester, Beverly and Salem.

Rhiannon Hurst earned some serious respect in the jazz world even before she graduated high school. She won 2^nd place in the Berklee International High School Jazz Singer’s Showcase and was one of four graduating seniors to receive the Excellence in Music Award from the Massachusetts Music Educators Association. She was the recipient of a prestigious 2021 National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) award in jazz voice for her caliber of artistic achievement. Her professional engagements have ranged from Boston’s Symphony Hall and the State Room to the North Shore’s favorite restaurants. With Matthew Walsh on Bass and Saxophone, Emmett Price IV on drums, and Jace Mason on guitar.

Friday, July 25, 2025 6:00pm Rhiannon Hurst earned some serious respect in the jazz world even before she graduated high school. She won 2^nd place in the Berklee International High School Jazz Singer’s Showcase and was one of four graduating seniors to receive the Excellence in Music Award from the Massachusetts Music Educators Association. She was the recipient of a prestigious 2021 National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) award in jazz voice for her caliber of artistic achievement. Her professional engagements have ranged from Boston’s Symphony Hall and the State Room to the North Shore’s favorite restaurants. With Matthew Walsh on Bass and Saxophone, Emmett Price IV on drums, and Jace Mason on guitar.

He played with the Lost, the Bagatelle and the Grass Menagerie before becoming a member of the Velvet Underground in late 1971, joining fellow Grass Menagerie alumni Doug Yule and Walter Powers and replacing Sterling Morrison, who had gone off to pursue an academic career.

With the Velvet Underground, Alexander toured England, Scotland and the Netherlands in support of then-current album Loaded. After completing the tour on November 21, 1971, in Groningen, the band planned to start recording a new album, but band manager Steve Sesnick sent all of the band but Yule home, presumably to retain maximum control of the product (the resulting album was Squeeze, released in 1973) and effectively ending Alexander's time with the band.

After leaving the Velvet Underground, he enjoyed a checkered career, both solo and with his Boom Boom Band, that lasts to this day. In-between, Alexander teamed up with Powers to tour France in 1982 for French punk record label New Rose Records, in 1987 opening for Dramarama and in 2006 for a tour with the legendary Boom Boom band.

Friday, August 08, 2025 6:00pm Willie Alexander, punk music legend, musical innovator, and artistic icon, returns to Music on Meetinghouse Green with his band for a rocking evening. Gloucester’s own Willie ‘Loco’ Alexander shares his legendary talent as a singer, songwriter and keyboardist. With his roots in Boston’s punk rock scene of the 70’s and 80’s, Willie’s musical career has flourished for more than 50 years. Whether as a band member with the Lost, Bagatelle, Grass Menagerie and the post-Lou Reed Velvet Underground, or as front man for his own series of bands, Willie’s enduring popularity is a reflection of his unique musical voice and artistic vision. A true artist, Willie has expanded his work to other mediums including soundtracks for local filmmaker Henry Ferrini, collage and painting.

To raise awareness and bolster prevention efforts, HAWC supplies the public with education, volunteer opportunities, annual community events, and frequent updates on related news and legislation.

Once known as “Help for Abused Women and Their Children,” HAWC understands the complexity of abuse. Thus, we expanded our language capacity so abused women, men, non binary people, LGBTQ+ individuals, older adults, undocumented individuals, and people with disabilities can feel comfortable accepting our services.

Gloucester’s treasured Meetinghouse, an architectural masterpiece listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in the center of the Historic District, was erected in 1806 by the First Universalist Society in America. The congregation was founded by Rev. John Murray, who conducted the first service in the Sargent family home on Middle Street in 1774. He was known for his powerful preaching style and fervent Christian belief in a loving, all-forgiving Creator in contradiction to the prevailing Calvinist teachings of the state-sanctioned Congregational Church. Because of Murray’s liberal religious beliefs he was appointed Chaplain to the Rhode Island Regiment under George Washington during the Revolutionary War and was instrumental in bringing aid from the Continental Congress to Gloucester, which was suffering greatly with no fishing industry possible under the British naval blockade.
